Etz Hayim Chumash

Temple Beth Israel is pleased to announce that we have been very successful in dedicating all of our Sim Shalom Prayer Books.  We thank our congregants, their families, and friends for helping us achieve this milestone!

Our follow-on project is the replacement of our old and worn blue-covered Chumash (Torah and Commentary) with the new beautifully-bound burgundy-colored Etz Hayim Chumash produced through a joint venture of the Rabbinical Assembly, the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ), and the Jewish Publication Society.

Etz Hayim contains essays on key themes, by prominent Conservative movement rabbis and scholars.  For example, the "p'shat" commentary, edited by Chaim Potok, seeks to explain the basic meaning of the text; while the "d'rosh" commentary, edited by Rabbi Harold Kushner, selects insights from over 2,000 years of Torah study, including passages from the Talmud and Midrash; the teaching of the sages; insights by Hassidic teachers; and readings by contemporary rabbis and scholars -- including women's voices.

For a donation of $60, you can dedicate one of these beautifully-bound Etz Hayim Chumashim in memory or in honor of a loved one; or for a special occasion.

By participating in this important campaign, you will be doing a Mitzvah and will also be providing a lasting tribute to your honoree(s)!

Please make your donations in one of the following ways to show your support of Temple Beth Israel and to create a lasting tribute to a loved one:
